Skocko -- Mike Skocko

Hmmm. I didn't expect that question to pop up so often in emails. That you enjoy the place is always welcome news, but it seems, for some unfathomable reason, that some of you want the particulars about me. You sure about that?

Who's responsible for this mess, huh?

Well, I don't know that I'm responsible, per se, but I did sign the lease. At the moment I'm the guy trying to update this place and the rest'll just have to wait until I can catch a breath. Right now I'm scrambling to plug all the holes in this leaky site while attending other duties -- and doing none of it all that well. See, I got frustrated and stripped the old version off the server before finishing this redesign, so the burning question'll have to wait while I patch and paint.

If it's any consolation, I wonder who I am as well. Maybe if I get it written down we'll both find out.

"Okay, where were we?" he asked a few weeks later.

Oh yeah...

Well, since I've posted my birthday elsewhere, you know how old I am. To celebrate my 9 x 5, the sky has arranged a bit of a spectacle for all to enjoy. I'll watch with my wife, Susan, and my daughter, Noël. I'm a wanna-be artist/writer who makes a living as a graphic designer/sign guy. I just picked up a teaching credential (hey, who left this Voc-Ed thing laying around?) and will soon find myself in a classroom. Since my favorite quotation is Richard Bach's, "You teach best what you most need to learn," I may wind up as a decent teacher. Time will tell. (But who will it tell?)

More later.

"Okay, it's later," he eventually replies (after repeated prodding over the past year).

Really?
You wanna see my mug?
I'm afraid to show ya what I look like today
(I'll get to the why further down the page)
But about four years ago:

Here's Sue and Noël about a year later:

And now our little girl's four-and-a-half
(She won't let you forget the half!)
Happy, healthy, and growing like a weed:

I'm a lucky guy, eh?

The years have been kind to Sue and Noe
(She couldn't pronounce "Noël" when learning to speak, hence the nickname)
However, they must have taken their toll on Mr. Mom
I mean they musta!
Or how else could you explain the following...

Last Thursday I stopped by the SDSU pub for the first time
Thought I'd get a beer to celebrate clearing the penultimate hurdles this semester
Plus, acing that midterm left me with two hours till my next class
(Don't anyone tell Rita 'bout that trip to Montey's!)
Anyway, I'm in a college pub for the first time in years
While waiting, I chuckle at a sign behind the bar
A pic of an old, gray-haired granny
The caption:
Don't be offended, they carded me too.
Got my beer without being carded
No big deal, right?
Yeah, that's what I thought

After the beer I walked across the street to Jack's
A couple of tacos and a Coke sounded pretty good
I placed the order and the girl says:
$1.33, please.

I smiled and replied:
It's gotta be more than that.

She kinda blinked at me and said...

Silver Club.

Silver Club?!!

Yeah, I've got some gray hair
Yeah, I've got some wrinkles
And yeah, there's a first time for everything
But...

But...
