About
those Links Uncomfortably Linked Two Sides of the Story I've begun to load UnNumb with links. Now, I have no idea how you feel about 'em, but I think they're great... and terrible. I better explain, eh? First the terrible part... They break up the flow of dialogue and the look of the page. Even worse, since many of the links lead to Amazon.com, it looks (and feels) like I'm pimping their products. To tell the truth, I'd rather you bought your books at an independent book seller, but that, of course, is your choice. Honestly? It'd be great if the few people who pass through here found the links more a service than a hinderance (or annoyance), but I'm concerned about maintaining the integrity I've built so far. This is not a commercial site and there aren't any banners or ads, BUT if you buy something after clicking on one of those links, I get a commision. It doesn't cost you more, I just get a small piece of the action for providing the link. I just wanted to make that point clear. Now, the great part? Well, on most of the pages at Amazon, you can either read reviews, listen to audio clips, or find more links that might help to put the specific reference in some clearer context (or launch you on yet another tangent). And not all of the links lead to Amazon. Artist's home pages and other informational (non-commercial) sites are being added as fast as I can get to 'em. If you know of any that I haven't included yet, pass 'em along and I'll set up the link. I'm trying to provide a rich experience for visitors, and since I'm not really keen on cluttering your monitor with extra browser windows, the links don't open in new windows unless you want them to (right-click/PC, control-click or just hold the mouse button down until you see the pop-up menu that gives you the choice to open the link in a new window/Mac). When you're done reading (or listening), just hit the browser's Back button (or scan the browser's history) until you find the page you were on. Easy, eh? You tell me. Good or Bad idea? Drop me a line. UnNumb 01 | 02 | 03 |
