Afterword

Sometimes inspiration strikes and bathes you in its light. If it's happened to you, you know the feeling. Me? I set out to write something very different than the preceding story, but like I've said, the prose kept veering, kept slipping into rhythm and rhyme, and finally I quit fighting it.

I get more email about DYC than any other section of this site. It touches people. Heck, I've read it dozens of times and it never fails to move me. Part of me wishes I could claim all the credit for the writing, but most of me is happy to have just been there when it happened. If you've experienced anything similar, you know I'm not really tooting my own horn when I say that I believe the story is worthy of publication. It still needs some editing, but someday this'll be in a bookstore.

So, I've gotten this far. I'll probably generate a PDF version soon so you'll be able to download it, print it, and give a copy to a friend or two. Or maybe you'll just print the existing pages and pass 'em along. Who knows? One thing I do know is that it's gonna be that kind of word-of-mouth connection.

"Long shot," you say?

"A'course!" I reply.

And like the story says:

If you follow where this leads, help me to understand.

Thanks,

Mike
